Diodes Inc. completed the acquisition of onsemi's South Portland, Maine wafer fabrication plant and operations on June 03, 2022, according to MDD.
The acquisition, as previously announced, will see Diodes consolidate the South Portland facility and fab operations, including the transfer of SPFAB employees to Diodes. As part of the long-term wafer supply agreement, Diodes will continue to manufacture onsemi's products from SPFAB, as onsemi will need to transfer products to this other fab work.
Commenting on the acquisition, Dr. Keh Shew Lu, Diodes' Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer, said, "We are pleased to have successfully completed this transaction, which is in line with our strategic objective of substantial revenue and gross profit growth in the coming years. First, I would like to welcome the SPFAB employees to the Diodes family. The team's engineering excellence and expertise will support our technology and operations. SPFAB provides additional 200 mm fab capacity for analog products, enabling us to accelerate our growth plans in the automotive and industrial end markets. The SPFAB facility, which will combine our existing facilities in Asia and Europe, further expands our global market share and significantly improves Diodes' internal capacity and external competitive advantage in this supply-constrained environment, while also supporting our future long-term growth." With the closing of the transaction, we aim to aggressively enhance SPFAB's new fab processes and capabilities in line with Diodes' strategic growth plans."
Diodes plans to use the facility to validate and manufacture CMOS and BiCMOS processes to support multiple analog product lines, including power management ics, signal chain and standard products, and multiple high-performance discrete product lines.
